Tesla was born in Serbia in 1856 during, as legend tells it, a thunderstorm. The maid in the family said that it was a bad omen and Tesla would be a child of darkness. His mother said he would be a child of light.

"He would be a Child of Light."

Tesla attended Realschule, Karlstadtm Polytechnic Institute of Graz, and University of Prague, then moved to Budapest to work for Central Telephone Exchange, where he got the idea for the AC induction motor, though he didn't work on the idea until moving to America
